Now the Real Work Begins

As I toured Australia last week, I heard the same message over and over again. As one Australian told me: “America is our close cousin, mate. We love you but we hope you become a better world citizen.”

We’ve done a lot of things right — and a lot of things wrong — as a nation. Regardless of whom you supported in the US Presidential Election, it’s time for us to capture the energy we’re witnessing this evening and move forward. We’ve all got a lot of work to do.

The world is watching.

“America is our close cousin, mate. We love you but we hope you become a better world citizen.” I must admit I take offense to that comment. We can always do better, but when there are things going on in the world if it be drought, famine, tsunami, or helping out war torn nations who takes the lead? The United States of America has a wonderful reputation for helping the entire world out. We are a powerful nation both economically and militarily. I tend to believe that is because of not in spite of our kind hearts. Are we perfect? No. Can you find a better nation on this planet with a more proven track record for helping those in need? No you can’t even come close.

Wesley: I value the fact that you took a moment out of your day to weigh in with a different viewpoint.

I view the quote as a message that America needs to rethink a few things. Others — especially those who are fighting for this country and for world freedom — may view the quote as offensive.

But I think we can all agree that America has a lot of work ahead of it. You said it very well when you wrote:

“Are we perfect? No. Can you find a better nation on this planet with a more proven track record for helping those in need? No you can’t even come close.”

    I can’t debate you there.

Joe, I appreciate the forum and there is little doubt I’m a red stater’ but I hope the Obama administration does well because the country needs it. It worries me at any time when decisions are made out of anger and there is a lot of anger in the country at the present time. At the same time the anger is understandable.

I must say I usually don’t find myself being in disagreement with you but, as always I appreciate the courtesy you show to those with opposing view points.

Glad to see other countries are optimistic and still positive towards America.

Just gotta be patient, there’s a lot of things going on and like any large company, country or boat, changing directions isn’t that easy.

Wesley: Thanks for the healthy dialog. I think it’s safe to say I won’t be pursuing a career in politics and I’ll be moving back to safer ground by focusing the rest of my week on IT blogging ;-)

Joe, well I find your style of political blogging is the best I’ve seen… kinda filters out the idiocy :) I look forward to the IT blogging and how was Australia? That has been a vacation spot my wife and I have had for some time now.

Wesley: Australia was awesome. At some point I will post a recap on our main business site blog (www.ninelivesmediainc.com).

I would highly recommend a vacation in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. I also heard wonderful things about Perth but I didn’t make it to that city. FYI: The US dollar is particularly strong in Australia right now…

Looks like we’ve gone off on a tangent here.
